Belgian, 20th century. Terracotta ceramic figural sculpture with light brown faux bois finish (recalling oak wood) depicting a young woman in 15th century Northern European dress with large headdress and belted gown with rosette necklace, hands clasped at hip length, standing on an integral rectangular base with chamfered corners. Incised on lower back "MADE IN BELGIUM SH-1". Overall approximate height 22.9", width 7.125", depth 4.5". Provenance: From the Estate of Dr. Woody and Mrs. Honor Cobbs, Atlanta, Georgia.
Overall good condition. Many cracks/splits emulating shrinkage in wood; probably intentional. Cracks are located on headdress with some loss to backside (see image #5), right shoulder and primarily down the left side to the base (see image #3). Figure with chip to nose with loss. Firing holes possibly to imitate worming. Very nice realistic finish imitating oak.
