Steinway & Sons (American/German, founded 1853- ), circa 1940. Classic and traditional Model S baby grand piano with mahogany wood art case above three rare Chippendale legs with C scrolled knees terminating on ball and claw feet, piano with original pre-war keys. Accompanying piano bench of traditional rectangular form with hinged lid on seat with storage below for storing sheet music and other items, original matching bench also with ball and claw feet (Chippendale legs). Piano marked with maker on front of case as well as on soundboard with "STEINWAY & SONS NEW YORK" and "STEINWAY FOUNDRY CASTING" below arched medallion reading "STEINWAY & SONS REGISTERED U.S. PAT. OFF.". Harp additionally hand signed, possibly by William R. Steinway in black ink. Piano marked with serial number "305396" and "NA T3057". Overall case approximate height 61", width 65.25", depth 56". Note: This piano was sold in New York to an Atlanta collection on December 30, 1940.
All original pieces intact, including bench and music stand. Scattered surface scratches, abrasions and minor chips throughout, commensurate with age and use. Original finish with some alligatoring throughout. Original keys with some scattered chips. One broken string. All strings with signs of corrosion. Three cracks to sound board. Deterioration to felt. Original harp intact.
