Anthony Thieme (American (California/ Pennsylvania), 1888-1954). "Two Fishing Boats", oil on canvas, signed lower right. Genre marine painting depicting two neighboring fishing boats at center docked in a marina, the ships each with sails and nets down and crew members working about the decks with the boats images being reflecting in the moving water at their bows, the wooden dock in view at lower left with a third fishing boat at its far end, also with sails down, the horizon line of the scene being near center with many sea birds aloft in the gray sky above a distant, hazy structured skyline across the water. Framed approximately 34.75" x 40.75" unframed approximately 30" x 36.125". Provenance: Barridoff Galleries, Portland, Maine, American and European Art, August 4, 1999, lot 45. Examined under black light. Painting is relined. Little to no in painting to surface with very minor frame rubbing to edges. Hazy green varnish visible under black light. Paint layer stable with no apparent losses, abrasions, tears, punctures, or repairs.
