Andre Hambourg (French, 1909-1999). "Fete des Marins Pentecote a Honfleur (Pentacostal Maritime Festival in Honfleur)" - circa 1976, oil on canvas, signed lower right "A. Hambourg". Post-Impressionist painting depicting a seascape in Honfleur in the Normandy region of Northern France, the loosely and abstractly handled scene with many sailboats of simple form lining a blue waterway, the tonal blue and gray scene dotted with vibrant and colorful ship sails and French national flags to some ship masts, with figures aboard the boats as simple yet recognizable swaths of black paint, the work overall heightened by heavy impasto white accents throughout scene. Verso of canvas inscribed "Fete des marins Pentecote a Honfleurs". Verso of stretcher with various inscriptions, one likely by the artist's hand "Lithographie pour le Salon du Dessin 1978" over "en Affiche " " " " ", these roughly translating to "Lithography for the 1978 Salon or show" and "For display at the 1978 Salon or show". Further inscriptions to verso of stretcher "Musee Marine 1977, No. 276 (or 274)" in red pen, "1976" in pencil or black chalk, "Photo Heroochou 11/79" in black chalk, "76829" in black pen, "#19" in black pen, and "20M" in black stencil. Verso of frame inscribed with various framer's notes in red pen. Framed approximately 27" x 36.5". Unframed approximately 19.75" x 28.75".
Excellent condition with no signs of rips, tears, holes, water damage or losses. Under black light examination, no signs of in-painting or retouches.
