American School, second half 20th century. "Clipper Ships", oil on canvas, indistinguishably signed lower right (possibly Lanier or Lerner). Horizontal abstracted composition depicting several clipper or tall ships afloat on a body of water with their stern lines connecting below each to their cast reflections with a low horizon line to background, allover in tones of purple, white, and blue. Framed approximately 37.375" x 41.375". Unframed approximately 30" x 40".
Painting not relined. Under black light examination, no apparent repairs. Paint surface with many abrasions and scattered losses, most notably to left edge below center, right edge below center, and just above lower edge at center. Frame rubbing present mainly to lower edge and corners. Paint surface overall with layer of dirt or grime - may benefit from professional cleaning.
