Sevres Porcelain Factory (French, founded 1740), circa 1772. A fine Sevres porcelain armorial heraldic porcelain cabinet plate having a scalloped shaped gilt enamel rim with painted band of gilt laurel husks and floral draping swags, centrally decorated with a royal insignia flanked by whippet or greyhound style standing dogs. Marked to the backside in underglaze blue with double Louis and the letter 'S', dating the plate to approximately 1772. Diameter 10.25".
Scattered surface scratches to gilt surfaces, not particularly distracting. Dirt and grime throughout, may benefit from light professional cleaning. Scattered minor losses to gilt, including light scuffing and abrasions. Visible damage to single gilt floriform on rim, damage to surface only; under black light examination, repair evident. Some minor losses to paint surface of left-most dog. Concentrated area of surface scratches to blue painted surface on interior of rim at top, to the right of center. Bottom with wear and discoloration consistent with age and shelf use. Bottom with scattered flaws under glaze, original to piece. No other losses or repairs evident.
