Circle of Alexander Roux (American (New York (1813-1886)), circa 1870s-1880s. A set of four side chairs in the Jacobean Revival style heavily carved comprising pierced carved crests with opposing rampant hounds centered by a relief carved boar's head headed by c-scrolls and a foliate flourish, the arched rectangular seat back with heavily carved pierced nature morte motifs including a carved hanging rabbit and hunting rifle the seat rail with carved goat's head flanked by carved leaves, the chair stiles comprising block and baluster turnings headed by gadrooned ball and urn finials, the balusters with leaf carvings and the blocks with carved paterae, resting on ring turnings, the back and seat upholstered in conforming diamond pattern fabric comprising muted green and brown diamonds on rust colored ground with brass nailhead trim, raised on block and baluster turned legs joined by H-shaped stretchers. Approximate height 46.25", width 19", depth 18", seat to floor 19".
