Wood section from John F. Kennedy's last official speech at Brooks Air Force Base in Texas on November 21,1963 prior to his assignation on November 22, 1963. Platform was divided into four sections and given to high ranking military officials at the Air Force Base in addition to Jacqueline Lee "Jackie" (Bouvier) Kennedy Onassis. Front of work with framed black and white photograph of President Kennedy giving his "cap over the wall" speech at the Air Force Base. Lower front of frame plaque with quotation from President Kennedy's speech "THIS NATION HAS TOSSED IT'S CAP OVER THE WALL OF SPACE --AND WE HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO FOLLOW IT". Backing of work composed of the memorial portion of platform with plaque reading "THE BACKING FOR THIS PICTURE WAS CUT FROM THE FLOOR OF THE PLATFORM ON WHICH PRESIDENT JOHN F. KENNEDY STOOD TO DELIVER HIS LAST OFFICIAL SPEECH AT BROOKS AFB, TEXAS ON NOVEMBER 21, 1963". Framed approximately 16.25" x 13.5". Note: The consignor or this work, Second Lt. Robert J. Kenny, served as assistant information officer for the Aerospace Medical Division Office of Information (now known as Public Affairs), he later retired from the Air Force in 1982 as the Director of Public Affairs, 375th Aeromedical Airlift Wing, Scott AFB III.
