Christopher Saxton (English, c.1540-c.1610) and Philip Lea (English, d.1700). "York-Shire" - c.1720 or 1732 reissue by George Willdey, hand colored cartographical engraving. Map with cartouche to lower left surrounded by many coats of arms and inscribed "York-Shire, Described by Ch. Saxton, Many additions, and Corrections as ey roads, wapentakes &c. by P. Lea" over "Sold by Geo. Willdey at the Great Toy Spectacle, China ware, and Print Shop, ey Corner of Ludgate Street near St. Pauls, Londn.". Inscribed upper center "Dunelmensis Episcopatus Pars (Bishopric of Durham)". Sheet size approximately 25 3/4" x 33 3/8".
Work with scattered loss and tears on edges. Two corners with fold marks. Three vertical fold marks with foxing throughout work. Left side appears to have been cut down. Minor toning to sheet, slight discoloration from handling. Sheet joined at center by professional. Pencil mark in upper right corner with 2 within circle. No other signs of damage, loss or repair.
