Rufino Tamayo (Mexican, 1899-1991). "Figura: Reloj (Figure: Clock)" - 1970, pastel and watercolor on tan paper, signed and dated lower right. Delicately handled cubist figural drawing depicting a figure at center with arms as white clock hands set at 2:50 with 12:00 index as the figure's neck with a red halo around its head, the figure set before an arched opening culminating at hip height, this form echoed as the space between the figure's legs, altogether drawn in charcoal atop a field of blue and peach colored irregularly shaped fields of watercolor paint. Framed approximately 20.5" x 16.875". Sight size approximately 14.625" x 11.875".
Examined out of the frame. Sheet overall with light, even toning. Vertical linear tear to upper edge left of center (approximately 2" long") - not readily visible or apparent as paper fibers lay smooth as framed. Sheet attached by two pieces of hinging tape along top edge to front mat board. Sheet attached to back foam board to right of tear. No further rips or tears, and no apparent pin holes, abrasions, or staining (sheet not completely removed from mat in order to preserve condition).
