Romare Howard Bearden (American (active New York and North Carolina), 1911-1988), "Morning of the Rooster"-1980, screen print, edition noted and signed in graphite in lower margin "3/18 AP Romare Bearden". Figural print depicting an interior scene with a rooster and a woman with oversized hands in the foreground, with a tree near a wooden barn or building visible through the open door in the background. Framed approximately 30" x 23". Sight approximately 2425" x 18.25". Provenance: From the Private Collection of Dr. & Mrs. Calvin Wayne McLarin, Atlanta, Georgia. Note: Bearden's work is included in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, New York, the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City, New York, the Philadelphia Museum of Art in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Massachusetts, and The Studio Museum in Harlem, New York among others.
Hinged at top. Very faint mat burn, most prevalent along upper margin. Upper left quadrant with scattered discolorations and impressions to printed surface and margin, with a few water spots, likely due to past moisture exposure. Also visible to verso. Minor discoloration in upper left margin. Lower right margin with area of discoloration spanning 2.5". Extremely minor tear to center left margin. Masking tape label on verso.
