Continental, late 19th/early 20th century. A Renaissance Revival style carved oak figural server having a backsplash centered with carved mask and scrolling foliage over a serpentine top with carved qadrooning border and two conforming frieze drawers having foliage carved faces with iron backplate and pulls over front figural supports depicting soldiers holding oval shields standing guard over an open shelf above a pair paneled cupboard doors, each relief carved with foliate and portrait medallions of soldiers and flanked by guilloche panels and raised on front foliate carved paw feet. Approximate height 51.12", width 55", depth 17.25
Structurally sound. Refinished surface. Cracking to backsplash. Surface with chips, nicks, scratches and minor abrasions commensurate with age and usage. Figure on right side has broken hand with loss, weapon has been glued in, chip to tip. There is some shrinkage and gapping and the base; doors do not shut evenly / smoothly. Hardware on drawers and doors replaced. Door pull on right is loose with breakage and missing screw. Inset locking mechanism not working; no key present.
