English, early 19th century. Regency blonde tortoiseshell and silver inlaid tea caddy, the box in sarcophagus form with central silver plate inlaid with a shell and opening to chartreuse velvet lined interior with two covered compartments with turned brass ball pulls, the case having a silver lock escutcheon and set on four ball turned feet. Approximate height 5.37", width 6.87", depth 4.37".
Interior lids with losses to tortoiseshell veneer in corners. Light warping to interior lids. Wood losses to top panel on edges. Wood losses with repairs and in-painting on corners and edges of caddy. Half circle loss on back of box above hinge. Scattered splitting and separation to veneer and wood throughout, however box stable. Scattered in-painting from losses to box throughout. No other signs of damage, loss or repair.
