English early 19th century. A Regency tortoise shell veneered and mother-of-pearl inlaid tea caddy, the serpentine hinged lid centered with rectangular silver plaque (blank) and opening to an interior fitted with two covered compartments, the exterior front of body inlaid profusely with mother of pearl and silver piping featuring vines and floral motif. The whole resting on bun feet. Approximate height 5.12", base width 7.12", base depth 4.6".
Generally stable condition. There are losses particularly at the edges and corners which have been repaired and repainted. Areas of lifting to veneer and some small losses to the silver piping. There are two patches with repairs to top cover. Small crack with loss on left molding at base. Shrinkage cracks throughout consistent with age. Small losses to mother of pearl inlay. Interior lid with velvet lining slightly lifting. Compartmented interior retains traces of foil lining. Hinges in working condition. No key present. Ball feet might have originally been brass.
