American, first half 18th century. Queen Anne walnut carved side chair having a volute carved crest centered with shell over the fiddle shaped and spooned splat above the compass slip seat raised on cabriole legs terminating in pad feet. Approximate height 42", width 20", seat depth 15.5", seat height 17.5". Provenance: From the Estate of Dr. Woody Cobbs and Mrs. Honor Cobbs, Atlanta, Georgia.
Structurally sound. Split with patches and repair to top of splat and top of both stiles (see image #5). Circular patch to lower part of splat. Wood loss to base of splat molding. Vertical splits in seat rails (see image #4). Traces of old glue residue under seat at legs probably for strengthening. Prior worming. Chips with loss to feet; not structural.
