American,second half of 18th century. Queen Anne period cherry highboy (pine interior) in two sections, the upper section with flat cornice top above five graduated long drawers, the lower section with single long drawer above three short aligned drawers, raised on four cabriole legs terminating on pad feet. Approximate height 73", width 40", depth 22.25". Provenance: Property from the Estate of Dr. Woody Cobbs & Mrs. Honor Cobbs, Atlanta, Georgia.
Structurally sound with graceful appearance. Pendant finials to apron missing and broken off. Drawers with repairs to runners, loose runners with possible replacements as would be expected in a piece this age. Upper case with vertical shrinkage with minor wood loss to left side. Base with horizontal shrinkage to left side. Possible later chamfering to accommodate shrinkage. Case with exposed forged nailheads along moldings. Missing lock to drawer. A couple of replaced brasses appropriate for the piece. Bottom drawer left missing pull. Minor nicks, scratches, and abrasions commensurate with age.
