- Lot Description
Attributed to the workshop and warerooms of Prudent Mallard, third quarter 19th century. Rococo Revival rosewood four poster bed, likely crafted for the antebellum New Orleans market, having a scroll carved and paneled headboard centered with leafy foliage and cabochon cartouche joined to the molded rails and footboard by generous turned, tapering columns surmounted with acorn turned finials and terminating in foot posts carved with gothic-arched panels. Apparently not marked. Approximate height 109", width 72.75", interior width 70", interior depth 78.5".
Condition
Some scuffing and scratching. Several small areas of loss, with large chips to veneer on tops of stiles. Some inherent cracking to posts. Scratching to interior stiles.Some very minor losses to carving. Approximate interior width 70", interior depth 78.5", so would be best suited for a custom mattress. No other visible signs of damage or repair.
