- Lot Description
John Hubbard Rich (American/ California, 1876-1954). "Portrait of Girl with Doll" - 1918, oil on canvas, signed and dated upper right "John H. Rich 1918". Painting depicts a young girl with blue eyes, upturned nose, and short blonde hair seated in a blue painted wooden chair with geometric design on seat back wearing a white dress or night gown and holding a doll in her lap, the chair situated in front of a paned window at left draped by long dark curtains. Framed approximately 30.25" x 25.75", unframed approximately 25" x 20".
Condition
Oxidation to back of canvas commensurate with age. Under black light examination, retouches throughout, namely in background and most prominent in lower right--no areas of in-painting crossing into signature. No signs of rips, tears or holes.
