- Lot Description
American School, Likely first half of 20th century. "Portrait of a Gentleman", oil on canvas, unsigned. Formal portrait depicting a man with short curly hair and rosy cheeks wearing white collared shirt, black tie and jacket at bust length. Framed approximately 34.5" x 30.5". Unframed approximately 28.5" x 23.5".
Condition
Painting has been relined. Paint surface with deep and wide craquelure. Under black light examination, cracks filled with in painting. Repaired rip lower right above corner, repaired puncture to figure's chest at right of center, repaired puncture lower left. Minor in painting to subject's left cheek and eye, with other scattered in painting to surface. Hazy green varnish to background surrounding figure. No apparent further tears, punctures, or losses.
