• Lot Description
  French, mid to late 19th century. A small, pietra dura box chocolate box for the Patisserie Siraudin in Paris, round in form, having a black marble pietra dura top, inlaid with red, white, and blue stone flowers with green marble leaves, with an applied scalloped brass rim, over a conforming ebony veneer base, with a locking brass knob, and mounted on four scrolled brass acanthus leaves, with a foliated pressed brass rim. The lid opens to reveal a coral watered silk interior. Etched "Siraudin a Paris" to interior lock. Approximate height 4", diameter 4.75". Note: The Patisserie Siraudin is thought to have possibly invented ganache in the 1850s.
