- Lot Description
Chinese, likely 19th century. A Chinese Export Rose Canton (also sometimes referred to as Mandarin Palette) palatial center bowl of round form raised on a ring foot , the interior and exterior cavettos with elaborate hand painted overglaze and underglaze figural scenes set in gardens and palace interior, the interior with wide band to mouth depicting butterflies famid prunus fruit on a gold ground, the exterior with wide band to rim decorated with key patterning and auspicious objects, and the interior tondo with further figural scene surrounded by a ring of lotus blossoms on green meandering vines. Unmarked. Approximate diameter 23.75", height 8.5".
Condition
Several repaired cracks, each 3-5" long around the body, with inpainting to both interior and exterior. Some inpainted repairs are flaking. Repaired cracking to foot. Foot also with chip. Some overall surface scratching and enamel losses. Typical wear to base. No other visible signs of damage or repair.
