Continental, early 20th century. Matched pair of Renaissance Revival tall back armchairs or fauteuils, each with a padded rectangular back joined to the like seat by acanthine and foliate carved downswept arms terminating foliate handrests, raised on gothic carved block and turned legs headed with leaf tips and joined to the back legs by blind fret carved scrolled shoe feet. The backs and seats covered in leafy tapestry secured with large and small decorative nailhead trim. Approximate height 48", width 26.25" (arm to arm), seat depth 17", seat height 18.5".
Both chairs are structurally sound. The upholstery on both chairs is tight, no rips, stains or odors noted. Both chairs are missing front stretcher. Traces of glue at terminals under arms. One chair with light blue paint specs on right arm. One chair missing block cap at top of stile; chairs might have had finials at one time and now covered with shallow blocks/caps.
