French, 19th century. Fine and palatial pair of Sevres style porcelain gilt bronze mounted vases with covers, converted into lamps. Each with domed cover and waisted neck enriched in gilt with leafy sprigs and colorful floral motif. The baluster shaped body with decorative gilt embellished cartouches, both finely painted after Fragonard, one with depiction of 'Le Serment d'Amour' the other 'La Fontain d'Amour', each on white ground with opposing sides painted with landscape clearing, water and farm house, the shoulders flanked by female mask handles on circular beaded foot and gilt bronze square base. Both are signed, possibly Monginot. Each lamp with double socket cluster and terminating with a pinecone finial. Approximate height 42.5", width 9" (handle to handle), base depth 6.25". Provenance: From the Estate of Mrs. Gertrude Furie, Atlanta, Georgia.
Covered vase or urn form height approximately 24.25" without mounts. Each with light wear to gilt and not examined with mounts removed. One with chip on flared gilt rim with later gilt touch-up. Each with possible minor over-painting over floral spray on domed lid (fluoresces under black light but does not appear to be hairline fracture). Each with chipping and flaking on gilt band on socle support above circular foot with later gilt work, visible losses and repairs. No other signs of damage, loss or repair.
