French, 20th century. A matched pair of Louis XVI giltwood fauteuils or open armchairs having a pierced floral and ribbon cresting over a medallion upholstered back within a carved ribbon frame, the padded and acanthus carved arms enclosing the serpentine shaped seatrail padded and upholstered, raised on turned, tapered and fluted legs headed with patera blocks. Covered iin stripped upholstery. Approximate height 36.4", width 10.75" (arm to arm), seat depth 17.5", seat height 15".
Light wear to gilding on frame from light use, most significant on arms and legs. Upholstery in good condition with no rips, tears, holes or staining. Some scattered small wood losses to corners and edges commensurate with age and light use. One chair with more significant loss to top crest and loss at left upper side of back (lacking gilt). No other signs of damage, loss or repair. Each chair structurally sound.
