• Lot Description

  French, 19th century. Matched pair of Louis XVI style giltwood carved bergere settees, each having a rounded continuous crestrail carved with berried laurel leaves and terminating in scrolled armrest and imbricated supports above a conforming double caned back and sides with central bead and reel framed oval panel headed with pierced draping floral swags above the recessed caned seat with guilloche carved border and fluted seat rail raised on turned, tapered and fluted legs. Approximate height 30.25", width 35.75", seat depth 15", seat height 15.75".

  Condition

  Caning to one is ripped and broken in several spots, and back seat rail is cracked. Areas of seam separation to both, and minor losses to gilding. Could benefit from light professional restoration. No other visible signs of damage or repair.
