French, 20th century. Matched pair of Louis XV style gilt bronze mounted stained mahogany and burl veneer bombe granite top commodes, the serpentine black specimen granite top above conforming bombe cases set with two drawers with scrolling foliate encadrement, the corners mounted with male and female espagnolettes on splayed legs with foliate scrolled sabots. Approximate height 35.25", width 39.25" (including figural mounts), depth 17.75".
All ormolu elements with later gilt retouching. Veneered drawer fronts with splitting and areas with retouches (visible under black light). Some other scattered minor veneer splits, particularly on curved bombe surfaces (such as side of case). Interior of one drawer separating from back board. Marble tops are not original to the cabinets--originally would have had inset marble tops. No other signs of damage, loss or repair.
