- Lot Description
Chinese, early 20th century possibly older. A pair of large Wan-li ware style Cloisonne chargers after a Ming Dynasty charger in the collection of the National Palace Museum in Taipei, Taiwan. Pair of chargers with dual five-clawed dragon motif in center surrounding a central medallion with calligraphic mark, the remainder of central field filled with cloud scrolls, flowers, and Buddhist symbols, the side walls of the charger decorated with precious objects and cloud scrolls, and the scalloped rim with lappet shaped cartouches each holding a five petaled flower and leaves. Underside of chargers with bands of key and foliate pattern along side walls, and field of blue cloud scroll to center of underside with six clusters of flowers surrounding a center cartouche bearing Ming Dynasty Wan-li mark. Approximately 16 1/4" diameter, 2 1/8" tall.
Condition
Overall pitting to the enamel; rubbing to gilt in some places. Some scratches. Small split to gilt band on foot of one charger.
