German, 19th century. Pair of large KPM porcelain covered jars, each jar having an ovoid form with vertical ribs, the body with two gilded wreaths in relief enclosing scenes of courting couples in eighteenth-century dress; floral decorations on the remainder of the body, the lid, and the shoulder; with a dramatically modeled raptorial bird finial atop the lid. Both jars with a blue scepter mark on underside. Approximate height 12.5".
Both vases with significant damage and repairs to lids--including one with missing feathers on right wing at bottom, both with in-painting to chipped elements, both with cracks with later repairs and wear to gilt. One with fleabite on rim under lid and one with fleabite on circular foot rim. One vase with diagonal hairline fracture on body--visible from exterior and interior--however, vessel appears to be structurally stable. Light wear to each bottom commensurate with age and shelf use. No other signs of damage, loss or repair.
