English, Late 18th century/ Early 19th century, circa 1790. Pair of matching George III period knife boxes with mahogany bodies of traditional sloped and serpentine form, each with satinwood inlay decoration and borders with oval medallion with radiating form, fitted interiors for housing knives with satinwood string inlaid ornament. Each unmarked. Overall approximate height 13.5", width 8.6", depth 11". Provenance: Walker McIntyre Antiques, Atlanta, Georgia, whereby acquired by the present owner.
Both boxes are structurally sound and overall very good condition. Both boxes have scattered vertical cracks that have traces of repair as observed under ultraviolet light; not distracting or obvious. Back hinges have missing screws. No keys available.
