French, 19th century. A pair of French Provincial caned fauteuils or armchairs with carved oak wood frames, the serpentine crest with central foliate carving and serpentine sides joined to molded cyma curved arms with acanthus carving decorated with scrolled handrests, caned seat and back upholstered with conforming mustard colored cushions with white embroidered flowering vines, over molded serpentine seat rail with foliate carving and serpentine sides, raised on four cabriole legs on scroll feet, the front legs decorated with acanthus carving at knees and above feet. Approximate height 37.5", width 25", depth 20", seat to floor 20".

Slight scattered wormholes particularly at underside of seat rail no longer active, commensurate with age. Feet exhibit scuffing commensurate with use. Chair 2: Slight small abrasions and minor splits at crest. Left foot with slight abrasions at base of scroll commensurate with use. Slight surface abrasion near serpentine front rail. Wood has been refinished. Diamond shaped repair at left side of center at chair rail.
