French, 19th century. A pair of cream painted and giltwood fauteuils or armchairs in the Louis XV style, each comprising oval form backs with circular crest of rosettes, the oval frame with leaf pattern molding, the serpentine arms with gilt acanthus carving and central padding, over curved supports with leaf carving terminating in large gilt acanthus leaves, the back, seat, and arm padding upholstered in conforming floral needlepoint upholstery with flowers in shades of rose, green, burgundy, light and dark blue over a beige ground, with brass nailhead trim, over the serpentine seat rail with central gilt flowers within a square frame, the seat rail and sides with conforming leaf pattern molding, all raised on four cabriole legs on scroll feet, the front legs decorated with carved gilt acanthus leaf knees. Approximate height 38.5", width 25", depth 20", seat to floor 19".
