Edmé et Cie (French, 1845-1969), circa 1880. Pair of French Armorial porcelain covered potpourri vases, urns, or jars, each having a pierced lid with leafy finial over a scrolled and pierced neck, the baluster shaped body decorated to one side with a heraldic coat of arms with a lion and a wolf, the banner with the words "Fortis in Bello (Strong in War)" within a white enamel scrolled frame, the reverse decorated with leafy floral motif, the whole in white ground with polychrome enamel diaper, floral bouquets, gilt enamel and fernery, the shoulders mounted with entwined and scrolled handles and terminating on a rococo style scrolled foot. Bottom of each vase is marked in red underglaze for Samson. Approximate height 12", width 8.3" (handle to handle). Provenance: From the Estate of Mary L. Haugk, Lawrenceville, Georgia.
Both vases in very good condition. Minor gilt enamel loss. Interior rim of vases where lid rests shows wear. No cracks or repairs noted.
