Giovanni Battista Piranesi (Italian, 1720-1778). A pair of etchings from "Vedute di Roma" originally published in the mid 18th century, comprising of "Altra veduta interna della Villa di Mecenate in Tivoli", etching and engraving on paper, inscribed lower right within plate "Cavalier Piranesi inc.", a black and white engraving depicting an interior view of the Villa di Mecenate in Tivoli, Italy with high roof supported by tall archways and many figures throughout the interior. Inscribed within a faux scroll lower right "altra veduta interna della Villa di Mecenate in tivoli. A. Taverna publiche. B. Cavi ne quali erano le teste delle travature de palchi, quali servivano anticamente per uso di abitazione" and "Veduta della Dogana di Terra a Piazza di Pietra", etching and engraving on paper, a black and white engraving depicting an exterior view of Piazza di Pietra with tall buildings to all sides and many figures to foreground. Each framed approximately 26" x 32", sight size of Tivoli approximately 17" x 24" and of Pietra approximately 18.5" x 25"
Piazza di Pietra etching on wove paper, signs of mat burn, light even toning to sheet, three remnants of adhesive at top from past mounting to mat board, print loose and not laid down, impression rich and velvety, inscriptions at bottom with lighter tonality, wear to edges and sheet from light handling, fold line running vertically at center. Villa di Mecenate on wove paper, etching not laid down and loose, large amounts of older brown thick hinging tape on all side visible on verso, fold line at center running vertically, minor scattered losses to edges, some tears on previous fold lines, light even toning to sheet, evidence of mat burn, additional purple stamp mark in lower corner.
