Chinese, 20th century. A pair of large porcelain covered jars of baluster form with cobalt blue underglaze hand painted decoration of chrysanthemum blossoms amid meandering sweet pea vines, the foot with a band of lappets and the shoulder with a band of ruyi scrolls, the round lid with complimentary patterning and acorn finials. Unmarked. Overall approximate height 22", diameter 12.5".
Each jar and lid with scattered glazing imperfections. One jar with vertical hairline running down neck to top of shoulders, the other with two hairlines running vertically down neck to top of shoulders--appears to be stable (some darkening to crack visible on interior and exterior). Remnants of adhesive and felt to interior of each lid. Rims of lids and jars with some scattered nick, chips and losses. Bottom of each jar with wear commensurate with age with some darkening and losses. No other signs of damage, loss or repair.
