- Lot Description
Italian School, 20th century. A pair of framed pietra dura plaques, one of a gentleman, dressed in Renaissance style apparel, with a red shirt and pants, a green and yellow doublet, and a feathered hat and a sword, standing on a rockery and holding a bottle of wine, and one of a lady, dressed in bar maid attire, with a white shift, a red and yellow corset, and purple skirt, and a ivory apron, standing on a rockery, and holding a pitcher in one hand and a glass of wine in the other, each framed in an ornate gilt gesso Rococo style pierced and scalloped rocaille frame, with a mirrored mat. Apparently unmarked. Approximate height 14.5", width 12.5", depth 2". Provenance: From the Estate of Channing S. Jun, M.D., Eastman, Georgia.
Condition
Male with oxidation, bubbling, staining and losses to mirrored mat, with some epoxy residue around edge of plaque and some accrections. Frame is broken and repaired in several places, with losses and cracking. Female with oxidation and cloudiness to mirrored mat, and epoxy residue to edges of plaque. Frame with some cracking and soiling. Not inspected out of frames. No other visible signs of damage or repair.
