- Lot Description
Chinese, 20th century. Pair of figural fruitwood carvings of an emperor and empress mounted as lamps, each seated on a low throne with dragon armrests and wearing robes embellished with dragons and pagodas. Each mounted on a lacquered wood base with a lamp fixture, with a square black and gold shade. Emperor's approximate height (to finial) 30", width (of shade) 16.2", depth (of shade) 16.2".
Condition
Overall condition commensurate with age and use. Chips and scratches overall to both. Emperor with waterstaining, resulting in discolorations, and crack to back and throne, which has been partially infilled. Empress with chips to most corners of base, and some cracking, possibly from shrinkage. Some losses to both, most notably tongues of dragons. No other apparent signs of damage or repair.
