French, 19th century. A pair of Louis XVI style carved and gilt wood two light sconces with hand painted figural scenes within frame, both depicting figures dancing in a garden scene, one group around a maypole and one group near a musician playing a lyre, the sconces with leaf tip candle cups surrounding central rosettes on stems, and acanthus leaf adorned frame and center pediment, with later electrification. Approximately 19.25" tall, 10.5" wide.
Overall good condition. Both sconces with scattered nicks and chips to wood frame. Metal has some oxidation with good patina. Figural painted scenes have a couple of scratches (see image #5). Foliate cresting on one sconce is chipped w/wood loss. Scrolled foliate at the left side of cresting has broken off tendril. Chip with properable repair to leaf tip (see image #7). Candlearms are removable from backplate. There is new screws, wiring and mounting bracket to the back (see image #9). All wear is commensurate with age and usage.
