Ovilu (Oviloo) Tunnillie (Canadian (Cape Dorset), b. 1949- ), "Hawk"-1990, carved serpentine stone sculpture, faint syllabics signature carved on bottom of foot. Inuit hand carved stone sculpture depicting a perched hawk with feathered wings raised and pulled back, head tilted down. Overall approximate height 4.125", width 3.75", depth 4.6". Provenance: The Estate of Mr. Joseph Gilbert, Atlanta, Georgia. Note: Accompanied with copy of certificate from Government of Canada noting its authenticity as handmade by the artist.
Minor scattered abrasions, veining and surface scratches commensurate with natural material and light handling. Extremely minor fleabite to stone on feather of left wing. No other apparent chips, losses or fractures.
