English, circa 1720. A fine George I Queen Anne style walnut upholstered settee having a rectangular shaped and padded back issuing padded arm terminating in eagle heads enclosing the padded seat and raised on three front cabriole legs headed by shells and terminating on pad feet. The back, arms and seat appear to be covered in period figural tapestry. Approximate height 37.5", width 52.5" (eagle head to eagle head), seat depth 19.5", seat height 16.5". Note: This settee appears twice in the Interior Design Magazine, publication dates September 1965 and May 1968 for Market Spotlight, Collector's Choice Group. A typed note, dated May 27, 1970 from Wood and Hogan (dealers) references the xerox copies from the magazines along with a photograph of the settee. Copies are available upon request. Provenance: acquired by the Estate of Dr. Woody Cobbs & Mrs. Honor Cobbs, Atlanta, Georgia from Wood and Hogan, Inc, English Antique Furniture and Reproductions, 305 East 63rd Street, New York, in a private sale on May 2, 1969.
