Carol Haerer (American (1993-2002), "Untitled", oil on canvas, signed adn dated 1957 on the back. Vibrant lyrical abstract painting in shades of orange, tan, red, green and purple. Unframed approximately 76" x 59.5". Provenance: Acquired from the Estate of Carol Haerer in New York directly from artist's husband, Philip Wofford. Note: Haerer's paintings were exhibited in the Whitney Museum's Biennials of 1969 and 1971. Her work is included in the permanent collections of the Whitney Museum, the Guggenheim Museum, The Brooklyn Museum and many other museums and universities. Haerer taught at many prestigious institutions including Bennington College, the Chicago Art Institute, Fordham University and Parsons School of Art and Design.
Painting unframed and on original canvas. Colors rich and vibrant. Under black light inspection, some small signs of in-painting on damaged areas. Possible scattered minor abrasions or scratches to paint layer--however difficult to discern if these are original to the work and created by the artist or later wear. Thick impasto areas of paint and edges with scattered craquelure commensurate with age. Paint layer stable with no signs of lifting. Scattered tears and holes on edges of canvas on stretcher. Repair to canvas visible on back in black T shaped form. Another small area with thinning to canvas which could lead to a hole in the future.
