- Lot Description
French, 19th century. Miniature Vernis Martin decorated pocket watch box or jewelry box modeled as a Sedan chair having front and side panels inset with beveled glass and decorated with hand painted playful putti or cherubs in various pursuits, doves, laurel wreaths and ribbon tied floral festoons with attributes of love, all on a gold ground. The interior is lined with soft gold velvet and across the back with metallic threaded trim, a small gilded metal hook for hanging the pocket watch or jewelry is centered upper back and the door is mounted with a pierced butterfly shaped gild metal knob. Old retailers tag to the underside bottom. Approximate height 6.87", width 3.5", depth 3.75".
