Large museum quality Meissen porcelain scenic vase from the painting workshop of Helena Wolfsohn, the bulbous vase having the interior of the mouth decorated with gilt enameled scrolling foliage, the exterior in yellow ground with a small painted cartouche to the neck depicting two figures with attendant and rearing gray horse and green landscape in the background, the body with large Watteau-esque scene with figures on horseback and on ground, apparently celebrating the kill of a large stag, finely detailed with equestrian male figure blowing trumpet, woman riding on a gray horse holding falcon, seated side-saddle along with a small spaniel dog, the other figures raising up glasses and preparing the slaughter of the fallen stag, all within a white with gilt enameled boarder over a foot with smaller reserve decorated with a royal figure, attendant, horse and dog with landscape and water in the background, the reverse with three well painted reserves of summer flowers on white ground. Marked to the underside of foot with AR (Agustus Rex) in underglaze blue. Height 14". Note: Helena Wolfsohn was a porcelain decorator, who decorated used seconds from Meissen (and white porcelain from other factories) at her workshop in Dresden (est.1843). She was particularly skilled at imitating the Meissen pattern of Watteau figures alternating with flower patterns. The workshop marked its pieces with the Meissen AR until it was stopped by legal action in 1881. Subsequently, a crown over a D was used.
