Hampton Shops (New York), first half 20th century. A marquetry inlaid walnut sideboard server with rectangular burl walnut top, cross banded with foliate carved edge over a pair of three frieze drawers each decorated with marquetry floral bouquet and raised on four front S-scrolled and marquetry inlaid legs united to the back spiral turned legs by a wavy cross-shaped platform stretcher centered with a fruit and nut filled basket, the whole resting on gadrooned turned feet. Impressed mark to the back rail 'HAMPTON SHOPS'. Approximate height 36.25", width 83", depth 22.25". Note: Hampton Shops' was the name which was given for general publicity under the business Grand Rapids Furniture Co. Hampton Shops was located at 34 and 36 West 32 Street, New York. Provenance: Property from the Estate of Dr. Woody Cobbs & Mrs. Honor Cobbs, Atlanta, Georgia.
