French, early 19th century. French Louis XVI style giltwood "Cushion" mirror having a scrolled foliate cabochon cresting issuing berried acanthus scroll, laurel leaf and flowerheads over a rectangular frame decorated with guilloche enclosing rosettes, with vertically aligned beveled looking glass within a ribbon berried surround framed by mirrored panels with cut star motif accented by oval winged convex cartouches with berried laurel leaves to each side and decorated foliate trellis C scroll panels to the corners. Height 48”, width 30.75”. Provenance: From the Estate of Mr. & Mrs. H.C. Carson of Atlanta, Georgia.
Structurally sound. Traces of red bole. Small repair and losses to crest (see image #8). Some gilt loss and cracking (see image #4). Broken and missing flowerhead upper right of cresting (see image #7). Scattered chips, nicks and minor losses as would be expected with a mirror of this age. Mirror plate shows silver loss, probably not original mirror plate.
