French, 19th century. A Louis XVi style gray paint decorated caned bergere chair having a floral carved cresting over a central pierced carved splat modeled as a flowering torch with interlaced leafy garlands, the rounded frame carved with ribbon twist and beading frame over a conforming double-wall caned back and sides, the serpentine caned seat with ribbon twist carved rail raised on turned, tapered and stop fluted legs headed with patera locks. Approximate height 32", width 30.75", seat depth 18.5", seat height 15.5".
Structurally sound and overall good condition. Caning is in good condition, slightly loose at the sides, with no apparent odors. There are separations at the joints and scattered, minor cracks (see images #4, #7 & #8). Minor scuffs to finish. Repair to back left leg. Prior worming (see image #9). Loss of rose tip at cresting. Scattered chips and nicks commensurate with age and usage.
