French, 18th century. Louis XV/XVI Transitional marble top walnut carved buffet or side cabinet having a rectangular molded rouge griotte marble top with rounded corners over a conforming case with two paneled and relief carved doors, one panel carved with snake entwined Neoclassical urn with draping laurel leaf garlands, a small compote and foliage, the other panel depicting a covered pot with scrolled handle and Florentine fleur-de-lis flanking assorted fruit, the doors open to a single shelved interior flanked by rounded angles carved with berried laurel leaves, the squat acanthus carved front feet united by a Greek key shaped apron centered with carved acanthus. Approximate height 34", width 47.5", depth 17.25".
Structurally sound. Minor flea bites and small chips to the marble top particularly along the edge. Back end left of top with chip and loss to marble- not distracting. Vertical crack with repair to the right side of the case with stabilization to the interior. Left side tight vertical shrinkage. Both doors with vertical shrinkage and small patches. The catch for locking mechanism is missing. The interior cabinet base with patch. The stile block legs in back are replacements with traces of old residue to the underside of case at joints fluorescing under ultraviolet light. Scattered nicks, chips abrasions, worming and imperfections, all commensurate and expected with age and usage.
