Italian, 19th century. Louis XV style polychrome decorated console table having a serpentine shaped simulated marble top above a conforming deep frieze, the apron hung with pierced rocaille motifs and central scrolling foliate and shell raised on leafy C-scroll legs ending on scrolled foliate toes and shaped pegs. Approximate height 35.25", width 58.5", depth 28.12". Provenance: Purchased from Withers and Lanham Designs, INC located at 375 Pharr Road, N.E. Suite 205, Atlanta, GA 30305 on March 26,1987. Copy of the receipt is available upon request.
Console has a slight wobble. The multi-board top has visible seams along with some scattered scratches and paint loss particularly on the serpentine edge (see image #2 and image #5). Scattered chips, nicks and small carved losses to rococo ornaments (see image #8). Right side apron with glue repair to element along with wood brace. Legs have splits and breaks with traces of glue residue observed under ultraviolet light (see image #4 and image #7). Braces have been added to the back at top joining case (see image #6). Evidence of prior worm wood. Wear is commensurate with age and usage.
