French, 19th century. Louis XV style walnut carved canape or bergere settee having a scroll and foliate carved back with arched and rounded corners inset with woven double caned panels enclosing the overstuffed loose cushion and conforming upholstered seat covered in brown velvet over a serpentine and foliate carved apron raised on eight squat cabriole legs terminating on scrolled toes. Approximate height 38.5", width 81" (arm to arm), seat depth 26.5", seat height 15".
Structurally sound. Areas of cracks with repairs and/or patches (see image #4 and image #5). Areas of new finish as observed under ultravoilet light. Slight wear to over cushion (see image #7). There is a rip to seat cushion (see image #8). There is a stain to the back side seat cushion (see image #9). There is a crack with repair at seatrail, right side. Caning is overall tight to frame with some minor fraying.
