Louis Majorelle (French, 1859-1926), circa 1910. A two-tiered mahogany with fruitwood inlay Art Nouveau occasional table or gueridon, the trefoil form top decorated with a border of lush contrasting light and dark fruitwood inlaid poppy flowers, comprising three flowers and a pattern of vines and leaves, over a shield shaped lower shelf, all raised on three curved fluted pierced mahogany legs signed at top in mahogany inlay "L. Majorelle." Christie's East circular label to verso of top, another label on bottom with date "Dec. 12 1984". Approximate height 29.75", depth 24.5", width 25". Provenance: From the Estate of Mary L. Table is structurally sound and in good condition, with all inlay intact. Original finish has been stripped. Slight surface abrasions to molding of top and slight splits in surface of top due to shrinkage and use. Lower shelf exhibits a small chip near the leg. Legs in excellent condition without much wear.
