English, probably Lancashire, late 18th/early 19th century. A Georgian mahogany and satinwood inlaid mule chest, the rectangular case fitted with a hinged top with locking mechanism and fronted by two rows of four graduated drawers, flanked by inset reeded panels on three ogee bracket feet. Approximate height 41.12", width 68.25", depth 21.5".
Top is warping and there are surface scratches commensurate with age and usage. There is a crack at top edge of the case on the upper right Chips with some wood loss to beaded molding at drawers and skirt. The bottom four drawers have locking mechanisms with two locks missing. The two sets of aligned drawers at top are later. Back panel is loose. Additional supports to legs and blocks/runners to interior case later. No key present.
